THE UNION AND COMISSIONERS POSITIVELY REFUSE TO CONSIDER VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS --SO HERE IS ANOTHER SUGGESTION THAT WAS IN THE PAPER TODAY--- ON CALL FIREFIGHTERS With the loss of tax revenues maybe now is the time for communities to look into paid "on-call" firefighters. Being a resident of Southwest Florida for a few years, and paying taxes, I would think communi- ties should ponder this. I was a paid on-call firefighter in Min- nesota for 20 years, fought many fees and medical calls. Our community covered about 20 square miles, we had three stations, 80 paid on-call firefighters and four full-time fighters. In these economic times, I'm sure there are many men and women who would like to earn an extra income and retirement. Many Northern states have both full- time and paid on-call firefight- ers. The savings to the cities and communities is beneficial to everyone. MARKWARNAQC
