Foregone conclusions just a waste of time and money

To the Editor:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a Republican, said "Republicans need to stand up to the president." I don't think you can expect that to happen.

During the House impeachment trial the Republicans managed to present themselves as a group of undisciplined schoolboy bullies.

Now that the proceedings have shifted to the Senate, what can we expect?

Can we, the American people, expect something to benefit the people? Or can we expect a defense of a president that has done wrong?

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he's working in "total coordination" with the White House to conduct the trial.

There will be no difference between the Senate Republicans' position and the president's position.

Therefore, what we will get from the Senate is a defense of the president, not a trial.

So why waste America's money and time to tell us that you agree with the president? Go home.
