Lehigh Regional Medical Center's Wound Care Clinic is making an impact on the advanced treatment options for hard-to heal wounds. The clinic is overseen by Dr. Doron Finn and Dr. George Kopidakis; both physicians also maintain a private practice inside Lehigh Regional's Medical Plaza.

Finn is the medical director of the Wound Care Clinic, but both physicians operate the clinic with a highly-skilled registered nurse.

"The clinic is meant to facilitate an in-patient to outpatient treatment for wounds that will not heal. We follow up with patients to assure a continuity of care," Clinic Manager Kim Bryson said. "Dr. Kopidakis is certified in American Breast Surgeons and Dr. Finn a member of the American College of Surgeons. I would refer and recommend both of these surgeons. Both of them are very skilled and qualified."

According to Bryson, both surgeons come from backgrounds of heading up large medical facilities and hospitals that deal with high-volume.

"They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience and are here to serve the patients in Lehigh Acres and the surrounding areas. We want residents to know there is place for them to get quality general surgery care," Bryson said.

Both doctors were trained and certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which heals wounds from the inside out with through the use of a pressurized chamber that delivers pure oxygen to the patient. The high concentration of oxygen to the bloodstream helps the body's own natural wound-healing abilities.

"This type of therapy is especially great for patients who have diabetes, because they tend to have a harder time healing post an injury or surgical procedure," Bryson said.

In their private practice, both physicians also specialize in a variety of surgical procedures including: diseases of the abdomen; diseases of the breast; gall bladder; colorectal; hernias; stomach and esophagus; skin and soft tissue and wound care.

Each doctor specializes in certain surgical procedures and offers a diverse range of skills.

Finn came aboard to manage the wound care clinic a little over two years ago and is happy to be here in Florida. He moved to Florida from Indiana where he was a surgeon at Evansville Surgical Associates. He was also chief of staff at Saint Mary's Medical Center.

Since beginning his practice within the Lehigh Regional Medical Group, he has used his diversified skills to help patients who suffer from chronic conditions.

"At our practice I see patients with a variety medical needs, gall bladder and colon issues and abdominal surgeries. We see a lot of patients who suffer from GERD (acid reflux) and are often able to treat the problem before it develops into something more serious such as esophageal cancer," said Finn.

Finn also has an extensive background in breast surgeries including benign diseases and forms of cancer.

"We preform quite a few surgeries to remove both cancerous and benign lesions of the breast. If it's a more invasive cancer, I work side-by-side with a plastic surgeon who performs the reconstructive surgery at the same time," said Finn.

Skin cancer and scar revision is another area of specialization for both physicians.

"In our office we treat both superficial and deeply rooted forms of cancer including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma," Finn said. "We typically treat less aggressive skin cancers with Laparoscopic surgery, which tends to be less invasive and promotes faster healing."

Both Finn and Kopidakis welcome new patients to visit their office for a consultation.

"We are happy to see and assess anyone with a general surgery need to determine their degree of necessary care," Finn said.
