Update: LCSO reports kidnapping did not occur

October 12, 2019
Lehigh Acres Citizen

In continuing the investigation of a reported kidnapping earlier this week, Lee County Sheriff's Office detectives discovered the reported kidnapping did not occur as it was originally reported by the child victim, who is 10 years old.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office appreciates the concern and assistance from the public and the news media, but wants the public to know there is no danger, and there is no suspect on the loose regarding this incident.

This investigation remains open while detectives continue gathering additional facts.

According to the original report, on Thursday, Oct. 10, at approximately 10 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff's Office received a call for service reference to the kidnapping of a child near the Villas neighborhood of Fort Myers, in the area of Beacon Boulevard and Coronet Street. The child has been recovered and is now safe, deputies reported.

Detectives with the LCSO Major Crimes Unit began investigating, which revealed an unknown suspect who has been depicted in the sketch.

Detectives further developed a description of the suspect vehicle, a red in color 4-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet. The suspect was described as wearing blue jeans, a plain red T-shirt, and a camouflage hat.

Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying this suspect and vehicle. Please review the sketch and descriptions. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective R. Flynn at 239-477-1379, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
