Program to give those with a suspended license an opportunity for reinstatement

September 19, 2019
Lehigh Acres Citizen

The Lee County Clerk of the Court's Office will take part in Operation Green Light next month.

Operation Green Light is a state-wide, one-week event to begin Saturday, Oct.12, and then continue Monday through Friday, Oct. 14-18, at the Clerk's downtown office at 2075 MLK/1700 MLK Blvd.

Anyone with a suspended license will have the opportunity to have their driver license reinstated at a reduced rate.

The Clerk's Office is waiving the 25 percent collections surcharge on cases that have been turned over to a collection agency as well as payment plan setup fees and the D-6, or suspended licenses, fee.

"Operation Green Light is a substantial savings for anyone with a ticket in collections and an opportunity to have their driver license reissued or reinstated," officials said.

During Operation Green Light the Clerk's Office will offer convenient Saturday hours and Monday Friday extended hours from 7:45 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"We are trying to help the thousands of people in Lee County with suspended D/L licenses save money and have their driving privileges restored. By waiving the 25% collection surcharge for traffic tickets, court fines and fees that are more than 90 days overdue, people can save money. For example, on a $206 ticket, you'll save $51.50 in collection agency surcharges during Operation Green Light," a release from the office states.

The Clerk's Office has partnered with the Tax Collector's Office, local courts and the collection agency vendor to take part in the program.
