Tickets are now on sale for the 57th Jamaica Independence Day Caribbean Fest, which is being Suga Music affair, at the Charlotte County Fair Grounds next month.

Dwayne Williams, who owns Suga 95.7, a Caribbean radio station on Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres, said he took over the station in 2013. The radio station focuses on Caribbean, R&B, Hip Hop, as well as Gospel every Sunday morning from 6 to 10 a.m.

"I use different DJs with different segments," Williams said, adding that he is the DJ during the lunch mix.

The Caribbean Fest is all about culture, which is highlighted with food and musical artists, he said.

Tickets for the Sunday, Aug. 4, event are currently $20, and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com - The #57 Jamaica Independence Day.

The fest will kick off with a soccer tournament from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., which is $10 per individual to register. There are four different teams, Kingston Breeze, Saint Mary Mangoose, Trelawny Tropics and Montego Bay Hummingbirds, that participants can choose from.

"They have to choose which team they want to get on and they will sign up for it," Williams said.

Those who are interested in joining the soccer match are encouraged to call DJ Astonvilla at 954-687-8494.

The festival will continue until 10 p.m. and feature such foods as jerk chicken, jerk fries and jerk fish. The music will highlight artists from artists from such places as Jamaica, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Canada, as well as locally.

A portion of the proceeds will be given back to a charity.

Williams said individuals should come out to the festival because one of the most enjoyable moments is breathing in fresh air while listening to reggae music and eating some delicious island cuisine.

"There will be different nationalities of food and artists that will perform. One of Caribbean nature mixed in with one or two R&B. We have live bands that will be playing throughout the day. We try to make it more exciting. They want to enjoy themselves, so we try to give them as much as possible," he said.

Charlotte County Fair Grounds are at 2333 El Jobean Road, Port Charlotte. For more information visit www.sugafestconcert.com.
