General Woman’s Club to host fundraising auction

The General Woman's Club of Lehigh Acres will host Quarter Auction on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. It will be held at Faith Lutheran Church's Sweatlock Hall at 705 E. Leeland Heights Blvd. in Lehigh. The event is open to the public.

The auction is being held to raise money, which will go towards scholarships and to help various organizations. Attendees can purchase paddles for $3 each or two for $5 and their 50/50 tickets. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Profits will go to benefit The General Woman's Club Scholarship Fund.

"This is one of the biggest fundraisers we hold yearly with most the proceeds going towards our scholarships, which aid in helping single parents with kids go back to school," said General Woman's Club President Karen Geckler.

This year's quarter event will feature 10 local vendors who will bring their products/items to exhibit. Each exhibitor will also present two items that will be put up for auction. Attendees can purchase one or more paddles with numbers on the front. All paddles will have a corresponding poker chip that go into a bowl with that number.

"We will show the particular auction item and then each participant can then bid by putting their two quarters in the bowl. We then stir up the bucket and choose a number. So bidders can potentially win a $25 item for just 50 cents. Proceeds from the cost of the paddle, goodie basket, and food and beverages goes towards the charity," Geckler said.

The quarter fundraising proceeds will be split 50-50, with all quarters collected for the gift basket going directly towards the charity. Each vendor will also give out a small door prize to each attendee.

"It's a fun event and there will be some great gift baskets and auction items. One year I won a basket that was valued over $75. It cost me only 75 cents. We also offer a meal deal for $5, which includes a beverage, sandwich, chips and a dessert," said Geckler.

According to Geckler, the organization held its first Quarter Auction in October 2018 and profited $750, which went toward the charity.

"We had a great turnout in October, but are hoping that February is even bigger, said Geckler.
