Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lehigh Acres will host its annual Yard Sale and Chili Cook Off on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the fifth year the church has held its community event.

The yard sale will feature home goods, furniture, children's clothing, toys and much more. Those who would like to participate can rent their own space outside for $10.

"We encourage anyone who would like to be part of the yard sale or the cook-off to call ahead to rent a space or sign up to make their favorite chili for the cook off," said Rebecca Silva, church event coordinator. "People can come in and compete by just bringing a crock pot and signing up by Jan. 28. The winner will get a prize for first place."

The yard sale runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the chili cook-off starts at 11:30 a.m.

"This is a great community event that we host every year. We will have food and beverages for attendees at no charge. There will be donations buckets for those who would like to contribute towards our programs," said Silva.

This year all proceeds from yard sale will go to church property improvements, the Learning Village Preschool and food pantry.

"Our food pantry reopened in March and is by appointment only. Those who want to come to the pantry just need to be a Lehigh resident and contact the church prior to fill out paperwork and make an appointment. Then they can come and pick out items from our inventory every sixty days," said Silva.

Faith Evangelical has a variety of ministries and programs including its free bread bank, which is open on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 a.m.

Recently, Chuck Emery, the long-time director of the bread bank, received an award of recognition from the Lehigh Acres Community Council for his service and dedication to the bread ministry at Faith for more than 22 years.

According to Silva, there are church ministries and programs for all ages going on weekly inside their main hall.

"We have AA groups that meet every day at various times throughout the week. The Cub, Boy and Girl Scout troops also hold their weekly meetings at the church. Those troops are open to children of all ages. Anyone interested can contact the main office and be directed to contact person for each troop," Silva said.
