A Purple Heart Ceremony is being held at VFW Post 4174 this weekend, a first at the Lehigh Acres post.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the VFW, 25 Homestead Road, South.

Warren Kline, a member of the VFW post, said they are holding the ceremony because August is Purple Heart month, and they are a Purple Heart Post for the State of Florida.

"We have been recognized by the Military Order of the Purple Heart," he said. "They are sending a representative, so they will be present also."

The ceremony is being held to "honor all the Purple Heart veterans."

"We have two, or three at the post itself, but it is open to any Purple Heart recipient that wants to come," Kline said.

The ceremony will include the Honor Guard, Boy Scouts reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, the presentation of pins and someone playing taps.

"We have little pins with the emblem of the Purple Heart itself," Kline said.

He said he is looking forward to the ceremony.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how it all goes down and meeting the gentlemen and ladies that are Purple Heart recipients," Kline said.

He also is looking forward to meeting more people, since he just became a member of the post about a month ago.

Following the ceremony there will be food and entertainment.
