Pair of child-parent dance nights to be offered

March 21, 2018
By ERIC DeVAUX ( , Lehigh Acres Citizen

A local business will host a two-night event to bring some family fun to the community.

Picture This Moment, a photography business, will host its innaugural Mother and Son Dance on March 22 followed by a Father and Daughter Dance on March 23.

Both the events will start at 6 p.m. and finish at 9 p.m. The location is at Faith Lutheran Church at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. E.

The event is to get families out of the house and meet other families, orgainizers said.

"It is just about trying to bring the community together and it gives parents around here the opportunity to enjoy one night with their son or their daughter," said Angela Webster, owner of Picture This Moment.

Webster noticed a lot of parents, including herself, were unhappy that there was only those dances for kindergarten, first and second grade students. She heard from parents who want to continue that past second grade.

"It started with our daughter crying because the school no longer would allow her to go to the father/daughter dance because it cut off at second grade," Webster said. "It just kind of got to where I spoke to a lot of parents and they said they felt the same way that I felt."

Mother and son dances are beneficial to sons, no matter the age.

"It gives the mother an opportunity to teach the son how to properly treat a date," Webster said. "Open and close the doors. Just the little stuff like that that needs to be taught.'

Father and daughter dances can also be beneficial.

"It gives the father a chance to play that role and teach the daughter how they're supposed to be treated later on in life," Webster said.

They will have a DJ playing age-appropriated songs for the children to dance to.

"I'm sure DJ Judy will play like the Limbo and stuff like that with the kids," Webster said.

They will also have a photo booth and snacks and refreshments all included with the ticket.

Ticket costs are $5 a person or $10 a couple and you can go online at or call Angela Webster at 239-258-9529.

Webster has a simple reason why she wants to continue this event.

"We put it together simply for our children." Webster said.
