The Lehigh Acres Spring Festival wrapped up its nine-day event with an activity packed day on Saturday, March 17. Since it fell on Saint Patrick's Day attendees also celebrated by dressing in their best green attire and collecting beads throughout the evening.

"Tonight we had a pretty good turnout, but we got off to a slow start last weekend due to heavy winds, rain and cold weather," said Lehigh Spring Festival Association President Bob Dutka.

The festival ended its "The Wild, Wild, West" themed event with a barbeque contest; the introduction of the honorary mayor candidates and a car show.

The annual car show/contest brought out car aficionados and novice to compete for the various titles including "Best in Show."

Jeraldo Valasquez, the owner of a 1985 Suzuki Samari, has entered the local contest the past three years and went home once again with title of "Best in Class."

Crowds were entertained by Dani Dease, a rising star in the country/pop/southern rock music scene who released her first album titled, "Born to Live."

The evening finished off with a performance by the Johnny Rogers Country Classic Show. The show featured the best of classic country, western swing and blues, Texas rockabilly, and gospel music.

"While we ended the festival fairly strong, we are looking into possibly holding the festival one week later next year to coincide with Spring Break," Dutka said.
