The Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce is preparing to host its 26th Annual Awards Gala on Saturday, Jan. 27. This year's theme is "A Magical Night on Broadway" and will feature a performance by the Florida Repertory Theatre.

Florida Repertory Theatre is celebrating 20 years of professional live theater in downtown Fort Myers, and was recently called "one of America's TOP repertory companies" by The Wall Street Journal.

"The theater's cast of their upcoming production of the classic musical, Cabaret will perform some of Broadway's biggest hits throughout the evening," said gala chairperson Susan Kostyk.

According to Kostyk, who has chaired the gala for the past three years, this is a premier event for the chamber and community.

"We are excited about the coming year. The chamber has added some great things to the calendar this year and in the process of restructuring. During this year's gala we will be swearing in new board members and we are presently interviewing for a new board director," said Kostyk.

The emcee for this year's gala is Clay Miller, the morning show anchor at Southwest Florida's NBC 2 News.

"We wanted to provide guests with the complete experience of dinner, cocktails, fabulous entertainment, as well as award individuals here locally that are making a difference," Kostyk said.

Some of awards scheduled throughout the evening include: teacher of the year, volunteer of the year and chamber member of the year. First responders from both the Lehigh Acres Fire District and Lee County Sheriff's Department will also receive awards for their outstanding service.

"We will also be awarding the "Heart of Lehigh Award," to someone who has done outstanding service here in the community. We have already chosen that person who will be announced during the night," said Kostyk.

This year's venue is Pelican Preserve, a current member of the chamber.

"We are excited to have Pelican Preserve to house our event this month. They are a valued member of the chamber" said Kostyk.

Other activities include a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle throughout the evening.

"The silent auction is another big event during the gala. Guests can bid on a ton of items including resort stays, tickets to performances and much more," said Kostyk.

According to Kostyk, this an exciting time for the community and there will be considerable growth after the widening of State Road 82.

"This is the time for local businesses to become part of the chamber and build their company's name and reputation with the citizens of Lehigh," Kostyk said.

The gala is open to members and non-members of the chamber. Anyone interested in attending can to still purchase their tickets through the chamber's website or contact their office.

"We encourage those who have not bought their tickets yet to do so. In past years we have sold out prior to the event," said Kostyk. "We also have sponsorship opportunities available as well."
