The Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres will host its annual free Christmas dinner on Dec. 25.

The dinner will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, at 2514 Lee Blvd.

The community is invited to come out and enjoy themselves, event coordinator Mike Buff said.

"It's a festive occasion and our Rotarians enjoy preparing these meals; it gives us a lot of joy to see a big crowd to show up," he said.

The Rotary Club has been hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for over a decade. Last year, more than 500 people came for Christmas dinner.

Buff put an emphasis on inviting people who live alone or people who have no relatives nearby.

"We want them to find their way to our Christmas dinner," he said.

On the menu is a ham, including all the sides and dessert.

The dinner is free; however, there is a small "wishing well" container for anyone who would like to donate toward the meal.

"But that is only for people who can afford to do it," Buff said. "We know that the times are hard for most people who come and we do not expect them to have to pay."

Volunteers are an important part of making the dinner possible.

"For that reason, we would ask volunteers to come to the parish hall at around 9 a.m. if they can," he said.

The Rotary Club is composed of 25 members and each member participates in some way to make the holiday dinners special.

"We have a great group of Rotarians and they are interested in our community. That is why we have gone so long and we plan to keep this annual tradition alive," Buff said.

He urged the public to come.

"Tell everyone to come Christmas Day - we're ready to serve up another great dinner," Buff said. "We pile the plates high and we all have fun."
