The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting and vehicle theft in Lehigh Acres.

At about 2:30 a.m. today, deputies responded to a possible in-progress abduction at the 7-Eleven, at 4325 Lee Blvd. When a deputy attempted a traffic stop, the blue Hyundai began to flee. Due to the circumstances, the deputy followed the Hyundai through the roads in the Lee and Gunnery Road area.

As the deputy followed the vehicle due to the fear of a possible abduction, the driver of the Hyundai lost control and drove through a chain link fence into a marshy area in the Westminster Community property. Two subjects fled the vehicle but were quickly apprehended.

Both subjects had sustained non-life threatening gunshots wounds, which they indicated happened in the area of the 7-Eleven. They told deputies they did not know who would want to harm them.

Both were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Deputies determined the Hyundai had been reported stolen out of Lee County.

The investigation continues.
