"This was exciting for us. We are Division III, which is a brand new division and is by invitation only," Raiders head coach Pete Gonzalez said. "We still had to first get through the Peace River playoffs, as well as the Middle Florida playoffs."

This is Gonzalez's fifth year coaching the Lehigh team.

"We've really been trying to revitalize the organization over the past few years," he said.

Gonzalez is a seasoned football coach with more than 41 years of coaching experience. He started coaching at age 17.

"I started off playing in Pop Warner football while living in Connecticut," Gonzalez said. "It kind of runs in the family. Three people in my family currently coach football."

This is the first year that the Raiders have made it to the Pop Warner Super Bowl.

It was one of two teams selected to represent the southeast in the championships and was one of 64 teams selected from eight Pop Warner regions playing in five classifications, including Junior Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Junior Varsity, Varsity and unlimited.

"We stayed undefeated throughout the season, even though we couldn't practice on our field after it was closed down for three weeks due to Hurricane Irma," Gonzalez said.

"Our boys stayed true throughout all of it and really stepped up," he added.

According to Gonzalez, the organization now offers a spring program.

"I started this program several years ago. During the spring, it's more educational. What some people don't realize is that about half of football is taught in the classroom," he said.

In addition, the Lehigh association's Varsity and Junior Pee Wee cheerleading squads made it to regionals, competing in the Junior Pee Wee Competition Dance and Mitey Mites Cheer Competition. The Varsity squad placed fourth in their division.
