Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, but it is about that time to start thinking about Christmas.

Mothers Empowering Other Women Inc., in partnership with other groups in Lehigh Acres, are doing just that. They will host the 1st Annual Fall Festival and Quarter Auction For Christmas on Nov. 18.

Taking place at the Lehigh Acres Church of the Nazarene, the festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the auction will go from 1 to 3 p.m. The proceeds raised will go toward purchasing gifts for MEOW's Annual Christmas Toy Drive.

"We let the parents come through and shop for their children," Kimberly Jacobs, founder of MEOW said of the toy drive. "That way, everybody can have a nice Christmas."

At the festival, the activities will include bounce houses, an obstacle course, a hayride and a big water slide. There will also be food concessions and food trucks.

Along with the church, the other groups taking part in the event are Pay It Forward Lehigh Acres, TopCat Party Rentals and Walter Salazar Pest Control.

"A team of us helped put this thing together," she said.

Initially, the fundraiser for the toy drive was set to be the group's third annual quarter auction.

"We had a meeting with the pastor here at the Church of Nazarene. He had wanted to do a fall festival but (due to) Irma's recover, it was tabled," Jacobs said. "He threw out the idea to do the first-ever fall festival, along with the quarter auction."

According to Jacobs, MEOW has grown a lot this year within the community.

"For MEOW, it's not just about my group,. We believe in doing more the community," she said. "We believe in Team Lehigh because we have a lot of businesses supporting us and giving us the auction items in supporting our events. There is a lot of good in Lehigh and that's what we want to push."

Recently, MEOW co-hosted a rock painting event called Rock Our Veterans!, where the public could paint rocks that were then handed out to local veterans for Veterans Day.

"Because the Honor Flight had to reschedule one of their mission trips because of Irma, they happened to come in this past Saturday night - so we 'rocked' a lot of them," Jacobs said, referring to giving the veterans the finished pieces. "We painted a lot of (rocks) red, white and blue. We did little bitty dog tags with a chain and we put 'No. 1' or 'USA,' 'welcome home,' 'thank you' stuff."

Jacobs called it a success and hoped to keep the momentum going into this weekend's event.
