JFK Medical chief of surgery joins LRMC

Lehigh Regional Medical Center recently welcomed general surgeon Dr. George Kopidakis.

Kopidakis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont, then went on to medical school at St. Georges University Medical College in Grenada, West Indies.

He finished medical school at the New York Medical College. He received his medical training at the St. Vincent Medical Center in New York, New York, and in 1996, he was board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

He specializes in non-emergent and emergent general surgery, with a focus on diseases of the breast and abdomen. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

For three years, Kopidakis was the chief of surgery at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, as well as an instructor for the family medicine residents. For five years at Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Vermont, he was the director of the Breast Center.

Kopidakis has full hospital privileges at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, at 1500 Lee Blvd., as well as a physician practice at 1530 Lee Blvd., Suite 1100. He is accepting new patients.

TownLakes open for new sales

Express Homes, a D.R. Horton Company, recently opened TownLakes for new home sales.

Located near Lee Boulevard and Williams Avenue, the gated community offers six floor plans featuring scenic preserve and lake views, with prices starting at $174,990.

Several new homes are expected to be available for move in within the next few months.

Available for tours is the Cali model, a single-story home offering 1,828 square feet of living space, four bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage. Features include an entry and foyer leading to the living room, an open kitchen and a dining area that opens to a covered lanai.

Airport reports monthly traffic

During September, 327,466 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla., a decrease of 16.4 percent compared to September 2016. Passenger traffic is up 2.1 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in September was Delta Air Lines with 75,168 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (60,369), JetBlue (55,070), American (54,090) and United (27,580).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,253 aircraft operations, an increase of 12 percent compared to September 2016. Page Field saw 5,467 operations, a 25.3 percent decrease from 2016.

In addition, slightly more than 2.4 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in September 2017, a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to September 2016.
