The Labor Day holiday on Sept. 4 will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations.

The changes are as follows:

Solid Waste

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning Sept. 4.

This means that if the regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday's regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Sept. 9.

Regular collection schedules resume on Sept. 11.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed Sept. 4 in observance of the holiday. This includes the operation at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, at 6441 Topaz Court, and the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road. The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 9.

The Solid Waste Department urges all residents to recycle the paper, plastic, metal and glass from their holiday weekend activities.

Utilities

The customer service center will be closed Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day.

Parks and Recreation

Parks, pools and preserves remain open Sept. 4. Offices and recreation centers are closed Sept. 4 and will reopen Sept. 5.

Libraries

Animal Services

Lee County Domestic Animal Services will be closed Sept. 4. It will resume regular business hours on Sept. 5.
