Zoning review board launches new website

The local planning and zoning board has a new website that allows applicants to download applications, as well as make payments online.

The Lehigh Acres Architectural, Planning and Zoning Review Board announced the recent launch of its fully-functional site at the July 27 regular meeting.

"We finally have the website and phone apps up and going," Tami Baker, vice chair, said.

The agency formed last month after breaking away from the Lehigh Acres Community Council. Now, it will have its own identity and conduct business under the name of its newly-created corporation.

"It's been a little of an undertaking," she said. "Literally everything had to be redone, such as the creation of separate emails, social media and the website."

The website is just part of the board's desire to make the application and filing processes more streamlined. It plans to soon offer a Paypal option to make paying online even more convenient.

President Inke Schirrmacher noted that it may link to Lee County's website in the future.

Two presentations were also heard by the board during the meeting. The first presentation was the addition of Westgate Lot 3, a three-story sub-storage facility with parking and office space.

Dean Martin, with TDM Civil Engineering and Planning spoke about the project. According to Martin, the facility will be at 5500 Timmers Lane. It will feature a key pad entry and be open to the public.

"The industry is moving away from gated storage, so this facility will be accessible only from the inside," he said.

Treasurer Thomas Pfuner voiced concern about existing height requirements.

After reviewing the plans and deviation request, the board unanimously approved the initial plan.

The second application was for approval on changes made to an industrial lot's driveway, at 601 Leonard Blvd. The owner was cited and ordered to bring the busing service parking lot up to code.

The two main driveways were replaced with one main entry, and additional buffers were added to the property. The board approved the project contingent on the filing of a stormwater approval request.

The local planning and zoning board meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, except in November, at 5:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, at 601 East County Lane.

The meetings are open to the public.
