The memory of a rising basketball star, who was gunned down a year ago in the Club Blu shootings, will be remembered tonight at the Stef'An Strawder Memorial Showcase.

Some of the top-rated basketball players from throughout the state and beyond will participate in the inaugural showcase, which will begin at 5 p.m. in the Lehigh Senior High School's gymnasium, at 901 Gunnery Road N.

This will be a NCAA sanctioned event, with college coaches from D1 and D2 schools in attendance.

The event is free and open to the public, with the focus spotlighting the talents of young athletes who have future aspirations in the sport, much like the event's namesake.

"Stef'An Strawder was one of the greatest high school basketball players to come through Southwest Florida," said Trish Routte, the coordinator for Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.

"He worked hard at his game and his laser focus was evident every time he hit the court," she said. "Stef'An was an inspiration to local players, and through this event, his memory and spirit will live on."
