Edward R. Murrow ... where are you?

To the editor:

It was almost gospel a long time back when one would utter the phrase, "I saw it in the paper!" or "I heard it on the news." That attachment to your statement provided it with a strong sense of worthiness. Today, if one was to make such a remark, the tiniest movement of eyebrows would not be arched, except perhaps in question. There is today no trust in the reporting of events. Skepticism is rampant, and why is this? Is it too much to ask of today's reporters and journalists? And I use that title with a large helping of distrust, flavored with disgust. Edward R. Murrow where are you? What we have here is, "not failure to communicate," but rather failure "failure to trust".

And why is this so? Do we deserve honesty in our news? Yes! Otherwise we are left with propaganda. Nuances and shady information that is best left on the cutting room floor of an honest news organization. But where are they to be found today?

A short trip through the checkout aisles of the food market is replete with the scandals of the day. Perhaps there is more honesty among the rascals of the elite then there is among our once revered journalists. And they are nowhere in sight.
