The people, and the system, ignored yet again

June 14, 2017
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To the editor:

What has happened to our government of the people, by the people, and for the people? Sadly, thanks to people like Gov. Scott and Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam the system is in shambles!

Time and again, the courts have decided that when, 17 years ago, the state confiscated citrus trees from private property citizens, their rights were violated and they should be compensated.

Juries have said "pay them."

Judges have said "pay them."

Common sense and common decency scream "pay them."

And yet two of the people's employees, Gov. Scott and Secretary Putnam, have decided that they are above both the court decisions and the will of the people and they have blocked the remunerations.

Their actions are inexcusable and absolutely un-American.

The governor, for taking this action, should be ashamed of himself. He has violated his oath, to be an honest servant of the people, and he has placed politics over propriety.

For this outrageous behavior, impeachment proceedings should be launched immediately.

As for Adam Putnam, he has demonstrated a shameful disconnect when it comes to having any right to serve as an elected official in a fair and decent society.

Putnam has declared himself to be a candidate for governor, an office which should never stand in the way of citizen fairness. Mr. Putnam obviously believes that juries don't count, judges don't matter and, if citizens don't approve of his way, they can go to hell.

Adam Putnam needs to know that we will vigorously oppose his candidacy and we will rail against any candidate for public office who supports this behavior. He has disqualified himself for any future public office!
