Sam's Club pitches in for Small Business Week

In celebration of National Small Business Week, Sam's Club continued the tradition of serving members by dedicating time to work alongside of two of its small business members.

Matt Schweitzer, membership and marketing manager of the Fort Myers Sam's Club, spent the morning of May 4 working at In God's Hands Catering, based out of Lehigh Acres.

The owner, Edgar Morales, prepares and delivers lunches for child care centers every day.

Schweitzer assisted with food preparation, cutting cantaloupes and watermelons, and packaging and loading the food for delivery.

Center to hold grand opening celebration

Optimum Wellness Center will host a grand opening celebration on May 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2724 5th St. W.

There will be activities for children, giveaways, food and drinks, music and more.

Animal Services hosting promos

Lee County Domestic Animal Services is featuring two promotions.

- Today-May 31: In honor of prom season, adoption fees for senior pets will be $20. Adult dogs and cats will cost $30. Valued at $500, the package includes: spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, Lee County pet license, microchip ID, de-worming, heartworm test for dogs six months and over, feline AIDS and leukemia test for cats, pet behavior helpline and a 10-day pet guarantee.

- May 20: To help with kitten season, a "kitten shower" event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Several groups will join Animal Services and presentations are planned on topics, such as fostering and adoption.

The adoption center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Available pets can be viewed online at www.leelostpets.com or on Facebook.
