Land-use related hearings top Council agenda

April 14, 2017
Lehigh Acres Citizen

Two quasi-judicial ordinance public hearings are on the agenda for Monday's City Council meeting along with a list of seven routine consent agenda items.

One ordinance amends the city's zoning map changing the designation of property located at 409 and 411 Hancock Bridge Parkway from corridor to multi-family residential.

The applicant requests the change for the vacant four-lot site situated between a duplex and a multi-family complex for the purpose of building two new duplexes. Deeming the change as consistent with surrounding area, both planning staff and the hearing examiner recommend approval.

Another ordinance seeks to amend the zoning of a planned 13.7-acre development project located at 2555 NE Pine Island Road from corridor to corridor with commerce park overlay, granting a deviation on the front surface of an exterior wall facing the public right-of-way for a project entitled A-1 Shelters Self Storage.

The project adds 6 acres to the project consisting of seven buildings and will store 145 RVs. The new acreage is to be utilized for 79,361 square feet of enclosed storage.

The planning staff and hearing examiner recommend approval with the deviation conditions.

Council will make an appointment to fill one alternate vacancy on the Burnt Store Road Right-of-Way committee.

Council will be asked by Mayor Marni Sawicki to approve a resolution signifying the city's participation in the Lake Okeechobee Regional Compact, a joint effort of officials in a 19-county area working together to create a comprehensive plan addressing environmental and ecomonic challenges associated with discharges from Lake O.

Council also will discuss a "beyond tribute" salute to veterans by redefining Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

Monday's meeting is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
