Good things are happening at LRMC

December 24, 2013
By JOANIE JEANETTE , Lehigh Acres Citizen

It is always exciting to look back on a year and see such great accomplishments. I would like to share with you just a few of the great things we have done at Lehigh Regional during the year of 2013!

We recruited a second general surgeon, Dr. Joshua Lee, MD, who joined Dr. Swiacki, DO in Lehigh Medical Group. Dr. Lee brought with him his expertise in single site surgery which allows a shorter recovery and less pain. We also have two pulmonologists, Drs. Lazaro Bravo and Sadiq Al-Nakeeb, who joined Lehigh Medical Group the first of the year. They also serve as intensivists in our intensive care unit and work closely with the entire medical staff to provide pulmonology services to our community.

We also had a primary care physician, Dr. Guillermo Cuna, join Lehigh Medical Group. He moved to this area from Washington D.C., and loves working in Southwest Florida. A cardiologist also joined Lehigh Medical Group in May. Dr. Haris Turalic moved to this area and has been seeing patients since May in his office in the Lehigh Medical Plaza adjacent to the hospital. These physicians, in addition to our current group, have been a welcome addition to provide quality services to the community.

We have also upgraded our stress equipment and echo machine in order to provide state of the art care for our patients. In addition to that service we have enhanced our sleep lab rooms, that now have sleep number beds and provide an "at home feel" in all the rooms.

Lehigh Regional Medical Center continues to give back to the community in the form of sponsorships and involvement. During the Lehigh Acres Relay for Life, our team was the number one fundraiser and raised more than $13,000.

The team, who was led by Andrea Shields and Marilyn Overbee, brought a great deal of spirit and passion to this event. This donation goes directly to help those of our community with cancer. We also continue to help the Lehigh Community Services, the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, The Lehigh Festival, American Heart Association Heart Walk, Volunteers in Medicine Compassionate Care Clinic, and local schools, just to name a few.

Lehigh Regional Medical Center is proud to be part of this community. Thank you for being part of Lehigh and join me in being proud of the only hospital in this growing part of Southwest Florida

All of us at Lehigh Regional are thankful to those who allow us to take care of them, and wish everyone in our community Happy Holidays and a healthy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.

Joanie Jeanette is the chief executive officer at Lehigh Regional Medical Center.
